The craft behind every step: embroidery and weaving in Oaxaca

By DAVA Artesanal

At DAVA, each pair brings together design choices, textile work, and shoemaking craftsmanship. Our story began more than 35 years ago in a family-run workshop in San Dionisio Ocotepec. Today, we are a women-led collective and collaborate with textile workshops in Oaxaca.

Two techniques, two ways to create a piece

Embroidery and weaving are not labels applied uniformly across the entire catalog. Each model features its own technique, materials, and production time, which can be found in its individual product description.

Isthmus chain-stitch embroidery

In the Isthmus Slip-On sneakers, Mexico Version, Isthmus chain-stitch embroidery is a central part of the design. These hand-embroidered sneakers have an approximate production time of 22 hours. This figure refers to the production time; it is not a delivery time.

Treadle loom

For the Cruzado Lana Sierra sandal, the fabric is woven on a treadle loom. Wool or cotton sandals have an approximate production time of 7 hours; the specific materials and details must be verified for each model. The production time does not equate to the delivery time in this case.

Understand the process before you choose

Explaining how a piece is made allows you to appreciate its stitching, weave, and finishes more precisely. It also helps you make your choice: the technique does not replace the composition, size, or availability indicated for each product.
